A European project to innovate training in the tourism sector

Roots Tourism EU was set up to introduce a still largely unexplored sector into vocational education and training (VET) schools, creating practical tools to prepare young people for the jobs of the future.

The project develops an educational approach that combines technical skills, creativity and community engagement.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The project aims to:

  • Design an innovative VET curriculum for the profession of “Roots Tourism Operators”
  • Enhance teachers’ and students’ skills in sustainable and roots tourism
  • Improve employability and job opportunities for young people
  • Support rural and less-visited destinations through sustainable tourism development

PROJECT RESULTS

  • A European curriculum for "Roots Tourism Operators”
  • Training materials and digital learning modules for VET education
  • A booklet on roots tourism and its integration into European schools
  • Sustainable Roots Tourism Action Plans developed with local communities
